Lusa Community Chest

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY CHEST Lusa Community Chest is a volunteer led, non-profit organization that leads, supports and participates in collective, inclusive community efforts that build capacity and mobilize resources to improve lives and create positive, long term social change in local communities. Lusa Community Chest encourage and promote philanthropy and volunteerism and are accountable to donors for the way in which they use the resources they garner and to the community for the results they achieve. The Community Chest concept was born to assist companies who receive many requests for financial assistance from fund raising organizations during the year, making it difficult to decide who should receive what.By contributing to a Community Chest, donors are able to address the whole spectrum of human need through one donation. Lusa Community Chest is affiliated to the international organization, United Way, and has been in operation in South Africa since 1990, then known as Sasolburg Community Chest, renamed Vaal Region Community Chest in 2002 and the name changed to Lusa Community Chest in 2010. Collectively all national offices are recognized as the Community Chest of South Africa (CCSA).
